MedIntegrity MFT-600

MedIntegrity Container Closure Integrity Test (CCIT) for Pharmaceutical industryContainer Closure Integrity Testing (CCIT) is a critical quality control process in the pharmaceutical industry, helping ensure that sterile products remain free from contaminants. The MedIntegrity MFT-600 Packaging Leak Tester featuring the flexibility to accommodate a wide range of products and packaging formats. With the capability to detect leak rates as low as 2 micron depending on package specifications, the Medintegrity MFT-600 Packaging Leak Tester is the optimal non-destructive quantitative test method for many pharmaceutical and food applications. MedIntegrity technologies were used to develop ASTM F2338 Test Method (Vacuum Decay) . The vacuum decay method of leak testing is a physical measure of package integrity which FDA recommended.Using the ideal gas law and introducing time to establish a rate of change of gas volume lost to leakage, a relationship of changes in pressure in the system volume can be derived.FDA Recognized Consensus Standards: ASTM F2338 Vacuum Decay Test Method for package integrity testing.. As the driving forces behind safety evaluation of materials and container closure systems in the US, the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) enforce stringent requirements for Container Closure Integrity Testing (CCIT). In 2016, USP issued guidance USP<1207>; <1207.1> and <1207.2> that deterministic methods are preferred over probablistic methods because they are able to achieve reproducible and predictable results at low detection limits for CCIT.In the current version of USP <1207> ,there are a total of four subsections. USP <1207.1> discusses critical background information and rationale for the selection of an appropriate test method. Included in this subchapter is a detailed discussion of container closure integrity testing and evaluation during a product life cycle, which states: Package integrity verification occurs during [at least] three product life cycle phases: 1) the development and validation of the product- package system, 2) product manufacturing, and 3) commercial product shelf-life stability assessments". The idea behind such a statement is that container closure integrity should be built into the design of the product-package system and the processes that yield it.ISO 11607 AND 11608 regulatory guidance documents related to sterile barrier packaging Requirements for materials and packaging systems. Technical Guide

How vacuum decay finds a leak

ASTM F2338, the vacuum decay method, is a physical measurement of package integrity — no dye, no destruction, no interpretation. The package is sealed into a test volume, the volume is brought to a set vacuum level, and the instrument watches the pressure. An intact package holds the volume constant. A leaking one loses gas volume over time, and the ideal gas law turns that time-based pressure change into a quantified rate of change of the gas volume lost to leakage.

The standard is not a suggestion: it is the FDA-recognized consensus standard for package integrity testing, and the MedIntegrity technology was used in developing F2338 itself. What you get out is a number — the leak rate — that you can compare against an acceptance limit and trend across a production run.

What 'non-destructive and quantitative' changes in QC

Dye ingress and destructive sampling answer a question about the sample you destroy. The MFT-600 answers it about the package you are actually shipping: liquid filled and lyophilized vials, ampoules, empty and prefilled syringes, and other rigid and flexible formats, with the capability to detect leak rates as low as 2 microns depending on the package specification.

That distinction matters at release. The tested unit can go on the line; the result stays in the record. A non-destructive quantitative method means the same instrument can serve method development, in-process checks and release testing — one documented method set instead of three.

Modular, portable, and placed where the work is

The design is modular and portable, which means it goes into the QC laboratory for verification and qualification work and onto the production floor for in-process and release testing without a different instrument for each room. The test components are optimized for high-sensitivity applications and the high-resolution requirements of the pharmaceutical industry.

The operator works from a touch screen display that shows the test data and the machine operations in plain terms. For a changeover, that is the interface you want: no separate control room, no training cycle just to read the result.

Setting the limit the test is compared against

A leak test is only as defensible as the limit it is measured against. Under ASTM F2338, the acceptance limit is established during method development for the specific package format: the method is qualified on the format, the leak rate at which the method reliably detects is characterized, and that value becomes the criterion every subsequent run is judged by. The MFT-600 gives you the leak rate as a number, so the comparison is a documented pass or fail rather than an operator's impression of a reading.

Because the method is non-destructive and quantitative, the same instrument can carry the program from method development, through in-process checks, to release testing. One documented method set, one record trail, and the format you tested is the format that ships. That is the value of a deterministic physical method over a destructive or probabilistic one: every package is answered, and the answer is the same kind of number every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which standard is it based on?

ASTM F2338, the vacuum decay test method — the FDA-recognized consensus standard for package integrity testing. MedIntegrity technology was used in the development of F2338.

Which formats does it test?

Liquid filled and lyophilized vials, ampoules, empty and prefilled syringes, and other types of rigid and flexible packaging.

Is the test destructive?

No. It is a non-destructive physical measurement of package integrity. The tested package can be released to the line, and the result is stored as a record.

How small a leak can it detect?

Leak rates as low as 2 microns, depending on the package specification — the actual detection limit for your format is set during method development.

Where does it run?

Laboratory and production environments. The modular, portable design moves with the testing program rather than being fixed to one room.

Which package formats can the MFT-600 test?

Blister, pouch, sachet and rigid containers — seal and leak integrity testing with traceable electronic records.

Does it produce auditable records?

Yes. Test results are stored as traceable electronic records for quality documentation.

How do I choose within the MFT family?

The MFT family covers different line capacities. Tell us your package format and testing volume and we'll recommend the matching instrument.
